During his time in office, Sean has helped enact policies to move New York forward on a variety of issues:
- Codified Roe v. Wade into state law to protect women's rights and reproductive health in New York, despite the Supreme Court's disgraceful decision to overturn 50 years of precedent.
- Reforms to strengthen New York’s gun laws and keep weapons and body armor out of the hands of dangerous individuals
- Helped pass a ban on anti-gay conversion therapy and laws to protect the rights of transgender New Yorkers
- Laws to create early voting, expand no-excuse absentee voting, and ensure military members serving overseas have more time to cast a ballot
- Changes to a broken criminal justice system that often kept low-income New Yorkers locked up indefinitely for low-level offenses
In the State Senate, Sean will continue to work every day to:
- Speak out against hateful ideologies like white supremacy, homophobia, and transphobia
- Protect women's rights and those of the LGBTQ+ community
- Advance equity and opportunity for BIPOC New Yorkers
- Strengthen our democracy by making it easier for New Yorkers to vote
Sean's leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic
Throughout the last two years, the pandemic has brought pain and economic hardship to families and businesses across Western New York, our state, and our country. Every step of the way, Sean Ryan has fought for Western New Yorkers and small businesses, and led the charge to help our economy recover. Sean has:
- Helped hundreds of people get their unemployment benefits
- Secured billions to help people pay their rent, mortgages, and utility bills, and to support restaurants and other small businesses struggling due to the pandemic
- Worked to distribute hand sanitizer, masks, and tests to local residents, businesses, and community organizations
- Passed laws to prevent price gouging on medical supplies
- Pushed the federal government to improve vaccine distribution
Working together, Sean knows we will make it through these challenging times. He will remain focused on helping families and businesses recover economically.
